In an interview with official US Ninty mag, Nintendo Power, Legend of Zelda right-hand man, Eiji Aonuma, has revealed his passion for topping the critical success of what is regarded as one of the best games of all time, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

"I’m happy that a title I worked on some time ago remains highly praised to this day," he told Nintendo Power. "But that also shows how none of the subsequent games in the series have surpassed it. As someone who is still working on the series, I have mixed feelings about that. Because I haven’t yet surpassed it, I can’t quit. Surprisingly, that simple motivation may be the reason I continue to work on the Zelda series."

That's good news for those of us who've lost all faith in Nintendo and their ability to feed the hardcore gamers with their beloved franchises (especially the Zelda franchise). Hopefully they hold off on a new Zelda, however, until a Nintendo console can put out higher quality games (at least in HD).

Failing that they could just rebuild Ocarina on a new engine and expand on the landscape / objectives. Thinking along the lines Mario64 on the DS, didn't think they would have topped the 64 version but imo they did.

yeah I think that could work.

I absolutely loved Twilight Princess, but I can't deny a desire to see Zelda rendered in HD on a more powerful system

i much preferred twilight princess over ocarina;

i lost my way in ocarina and it just wasnt as enjoyable as tp was:

tp still has the best combat and moves of any rpg/adventure game yet:

I want to see a remastered version of orcarnia. with up-to date graphics, and digital sound. then throw in the wii's classic controller and voila! you could even sell it cheaper?

to me it is my favourite game of all time, and I know there are thousands of others out there that feel the same way.

Ocarina of Time was awesome, but I think Wind Waker was at least on par with it.

I've been waiting since the release of the VC for Majora's Mask to be released. I own OoT on the Gamecube (came with wind waker) and owned MM on the N64 before I sold it. As great as OoT is, I still think Majora's Mask was the better game (although it is hard to separate them).

If you want to replay OoT and MM plus other N64 games with updated visuals in HD, check out www.emutalk.net. If you hunt around on the forum's you'll find a few individuals have been updating the textures and sometimes lighting/shadows for a few of the classic N64 titles like OoT, MM & Mario64.

Also, youtube Majora's Mask mods.

If he truly wants to beat Ocarina of Time, they need to reinvent the genre somehow
